Like the Fig Tree

It's only day two of blogging and I'm already fearful. You see, I have two blogs. This, being my personal one, and the other being a project.

Something about me: I hate to fail. So in order to avoid that, I will avoid trying. At this point in my 24 years of life, I should realize that I cannot avoid failures, setbacks or disappointments. It happens. But I'm afraid that I will not have enough passion to finish through and I've only just begun.

I won't bore you with excuses but I will leave you encouraged with a message that I heard at church earlier in the day. The sermon was based on Luke 13: 6-9 (KJV)

6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

I got a lot of messages from that tiny portion of the scripture but I will choose to apply it to how I'm feeling right now. Too many times we want to rush and put a time stamp on the things that we need to accomplish but yet we don't consult the Keeper of time first. We try to produce "fruit" that in effect does not grow because of lack of time and patience. Then we grow weary and want to give up before we have even begun. I do not need that to be my plight. I'm encouraging myself by trying and being productive so that I will produce something pleasing to the Lord, in the time allotted. As the pastor said, my setback is a set up for my comeback. And in the name of Jesus, I already claim the victory.
